Message from the UN Resident Coordinator in Indonesia on UN turns 75 years

This year, the UN marks its 75th anniversary.

The UN was founded in 1945 to support collective action to realize peace, development and human rights for all.

The world is at a critical moment on several fronts – the climate emergency; rising inequality; an increase in hatred and intolerance; as well as an alarming number of peace and security challenges. Tensions are rising everywhere.

The problems we face are real.

But so is hope.

Extreme poverty and child and neonatal mortality rates are falling, access to energy and to decent work is rising, and more people are healthier than ever before.

Indeed, in the face of these daunting challenges youth offer 1 billion good reasons for optimism.

Today’s youth- the largest youth population ever - are entering adulthood confident they can build a better future for themselves and those that follow.

On its 75th Anniversary, the UN is reaffirming its shared vision for the future through UN75- the biggest ever conversation on the role of global cooperation in building the future we want.

Anyone can join the conversation - we need real stories from real people to point the way to a more just world.

We need to move together - to leave no one behind.

So on behalf of the UN Team in Indonesia, I invite you to join the conversation.
