Indonesia President and Community Leaders Spotlight Role of Women in Sustainable Peace

A landmark community festival led by Indonesian President Joko Widodo to commemorate the International Day of Peace, brought together 8,000 people to celebrate women’s empowerment and peaceful communities. 

President Widodo, who in 2015 announced his support to UN Women’s HeForShe global initiative to advance gender equality, joined UN Women and the Wahid Foundation, with the support of the Government of Japan, to celebrate the contribution of women entrepreneurs in local development and to emphasize women’s roles in promoting peaceful coexistence and resilient communities. Indonesia Marks UN Day

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the UN Systemin Indonesia marked the United Nations Day on 27 October 2017.  The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Retno Marsudi, gave a keynote address at the commemoration marked by a seminar on ‘Building Indonesia’s Civilian Capacity and its Role in Sustaining Peace’, and a photo exhibition on Indonesia’s activities in various peacekeeping missions around the world. READ MORE

Ninth Session of the World Urban Forum

From 7-13 February 2018, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) will convene the Ninth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF9), hosted in Kuala Lumpur by the Government of Malaysia, under the theme: Cities 2030 – Cities for All: Implementing the New Urban Agenda.  The World Urban Forum, convened every two years, is recognized as the foremost global arena for interaction among policymakers, local government leaders, non-government organizations and expert practitioners in the field of sustainable urban development and human settlements. WUF9 is expected to draw around 25,000 participants. ​READ MORE

Seaweed Programme Empowers Women in East Sumba

“Mr. and Mrs. Blue Barrel” Educate Young Children On Blue Line Safety

First Sergeant Etikasari, a UNIFIL Indonesian peacekeeper, is visiting the public school in Aytarun, a village close to the Blue Line in south Lebanon. She stands at the front of the class and begins a discussion with the ten-year olds. She is animated and fun, and the children respond to her bright smile. UN Indonesia Staff Celebrate UN Day

It was a special day for all United Nations staff members in Indonesia as they gathered together to celebrate United Nations Day.  ​Staff greeted each other, exchanged stories and shared the joyous feeling that the place they call their “second home”, was celebrating its 72nd anniversary.
